How we found our house
The discovery
Druids Lodge
After the find
Back at home
It's now ours!
Most urgent jobs
The rest of week one
Change of plan
Plan two
Sorting our things
More jobs in store
Three into two will go
kitchen renovations
changes to the living room
The dining room
Our bedroom
hall stairs and landing
The outside walls
our old house

Welcome to my house, come in, such as it is, I share it with you.

welcome

Here you'll learn all about our 240 year old house, how we discovered it, the state it was in when we bought it, I will tell you about some of the work that has been done on it, including some of the pitfalls we came across, and about the work still needed to restore it. By the time you finish reading these pages, you will probably think we are mad, which we probably are!

On these pages, I'll introduce myself and talk about my house, with all of it's potential, and some of it's pitfalls.
Please sign my guestbook with any comments or reactions you have to my site. You can also contact me privately. I love to get mail!

I wrote this poem about our house, I hope you enjoy it.

Druids Lodge

Druids Lodge our house is called
Built long ago, and granite walled
It's origins to us a mystery
Shrouded in the years of history
Two hundred and fifty years old, they say
Still standing as strong as ever today

Five hundred feet below, the shaft of a mine
Long ago closed, forgotten by time
Wheal Druids was the name of that pit
Was this house named after it?
Or did the druids give it their name
Call the mine, and the Lodge, both the same

Once a workhouse, so the maps say
It housed the folk who couldn't pay
To give their family clothes and bed
Providing them with their daily bread
Folk who were sick, or simply in need
A very harsh regime there ruled indeed

Or did it house Druids, do you think that it would
All dressed in habits, covered with hood
Roaming the hillside, gathering wood
To burn in the down hearth fireplace
It would need lots of fuel
To heat this big space

the estate agent's photo

This is the estate agent's photo, not much to look at at this stage is it. I hope to include as many 'before' and 'during' photos for you, as you can guess, we have not reached the 'after' stage yet.

our part of the building

The photo above shows our part of the building, when we bought it, things have changed a lot since then. There are new windows, the old door has been replaced by a window, the window has been replaced by a door. The white wall above the kitchen extension, has had the rendering removed, and the mortar replaced, exposing the granite blocks which the building is made of.

view from garden gates

this is the view from our garden gates, see the old sheds, and the monument which stands on the hill

see monument and castle on hill

in this view of the hill, you can see the monument, and the small castle which stand on the hill at the bottom of the garden

What's New? new page about the kitchen renovation, no photos added yet though.

Here I will add an entry whenever I make an update to my web site. Where appropriate, I'll include a link to the change.
